8 Random Marvia Facts - A Tagging Game

Let’s Play Tag!

Recently, I started doing Blog Drive-Bys. I got that term from my friend Gabe who started doing what he calls his ‘Weekend Blog Drive-By’.

I have been making some great friends on these drive-bys. As I cruise about reading, I have found some really great stuff that rival many of my favourite novelists. So now, I’m playing this tagging game, known as a Blog meme.

Thanks Gabe for Tagging me and getting me into this. Read what Gabe said here first.

The Rules

– Post 8 random facts about yourself
– Tag 8 other Blogs in return

If you are new to this and wish to participate, please link back to this specific post. Make it easier for readers at your site to find this post rather than having to dig through posts several levels deep.

My Game -8 Random Marvia Facts

3 Loves …..

1] I love winter weather - the ritual of getting warm and snug under a blanket or in layers of clothing, the pleasure of burrowing in a warm spot on the bed.

2] I love the sound of rain on a zinc roof. It makes me feel sleepy instantly. It is going to rain over the next 4 months here. We are in the middle of Panama’s wet season. I have a zinc roof at home, and it rains a lot in the early mornings…need I say more?

3] I love the smell of dirt at the first drops of rain reminds me of my late grandparent’s home in rural Jamaica. Gives me an insane urge for spiced coffee (home grown and roasted coffee beans, beaten and boiled in a special pot, add coconut milk, nutmeg, vanilla and salt…makes me want to start drinking coffee again), with slightly ripe roast breadfruit with ackee and saltfish [Jamaica's National Dish].

3 Peeves…….

4] I hate little boxes on websites asking you for your Bio or to describe yourself. What do I write? I’m a multi-headed hydra? Now Google that!

5] I hate filling out lengthy subscription boxes on websites then have the site time-out and have to do it all over again.

6] I absolutely dislike call centers. You are taken around in circles and usually end up more frustrated than before you called in with your problem.

And 2 Uncommon Experiences…..

7] I once slept a whole night in a hammock. The hammock was in a hut. The hut was in a maroon village, which was in the Interior in Suriname.

8] My most terrifying moment to date - traveling up and down a river that was in spate, in torrential rain, in a tiny boat, without a life jacket to distribute relief supplies during a flood. The numbness wore off a day later leaving me in shock. I still have difficulty believing I did that.

Although I am in the field of religion, my reading taste goes way beyond religious books and heavy theological tomes. The same is true for my Blog reading list. This is a sample of recently discovered Blogs.

Tagged! Your Turn

1. Duane-Francis - Jamaican spoken word artiste Duane. I confess I love his voice…
2. Beaman’s World - Apart from loving the way Beaman writes; his Cats’ Tales (try saying that fast) are hilarious.
3. Photos From Northern Norway - Tom’s interesting photos especially his animal close ups are really good.
4. Terrence Chang - Terrence provides useful information and updates on techie stuff.
5. Despair and Coffee - Reads like a novel and the author has a way with words.
6. Flamingo House Happenings - Denise tells mommy tales about parenting, business, and other stuff.
7. Logical Emotions - I especially like his Wordless Wednesdays (and I’m thinking of stealing that idea too). My problem is the wordless part..
8. Unmasking - a sister colleague in ministry Blogging about her faith journey and work in New Zealand.

    Hey Marvia,
    I’m glad you participated too.

    LOL on #4! :D

#8 must really be fulfilling despite the obstacles that you have to go through.

  2. Marvia Says:

    Thanks Gabe :-)
    It’s been fun.
    # 8 - Yes it was a truly fulfilling experience.

Hey id like to get in on this action. Guess i’ll have to start doing blog drive-bys.

I’m with you on #3 minus the spiced coffee bit. And for me it has to be just the first few drops cause after that i receive diminishing returns…

The only blog on your list that i have visited before is #1 and yes his voice….

    Bless
    Derri

    Hey Marvia,
Thanks for tagging me! :) I’ll respond here, since I limit my site to more devotional stuff - but this is fun! So here goes… 8 random facts about me:
    1. I’ve been to Panama AND Jamaica, but I was just a child.
    2. I grew up on a ship called Doulos.
    3. I once burnt down a hut in the mountains by accident. Horrible experience, but nobody was hurt.
    4. I’m mentally allergic to peas.
    5. I was born on 7/7/77, have 7 letters in my name, used to live at #77 and had a phone number ending in 77. Random!
    6. My greatest phobia is swimming in the ocean where I can’t touch the bottom. (Saw Jaws too many times as a kid!)
    7. One paper I studied at Uni was Music of Japan. It hasn’t come in too handy, but was fascinating.
    8. As a student, I used to work as a caricature artist in a shopping centre.

OK, that’s enough! Thanks again for the tag. :)

    Derri,
You can get in on the action.

Just follow the rules above and let’s keep this going. Yes the Blog Drive By is much safer than any other kind of Drive-Bys we know about.

I look forward to your 8 things :-)

  6. Marvia Says:

    Shirley,
    Your list is certainly interesting!

From hut burning to becoming a doulos yourself…[No people she did not become a ship!! Here's a clue - doulos is Greek for.........] :-)

You should visit Panama and Jamaica again! Both are much more interesting these days.

  7. Shirley Says:

    ;) Good Greek!
