Mars 2 Moons Appearing August 27, 2007?
Drama of the Alleged 2 Moons Coming
“Hey, yu goin watch di 2 moon tomoro [August 27th] at midnite?” asked an excited ‘love-to-forward-emails’ girlfriend. [Caribbean tongue used. Island not disclosed to protect future forwarded emails I will receive]
An even more excited Marvia replied, “Wat! 2 Moon? Yu serious? How come it not on di news? Of course mi ave to see dat. So wat’s going to appen? Man…2 moon. Geezzaam” [spoken in Jamaican]
Marvia continued, “Girl I goin search online. Cause I caan believe I neva ear anyting bout 2 moon. Yu sure it not gwine cause some kine a disasta or someting”
So Marvia went and diligently searched, as if it were for the Christ child. She was feeling positively like a sage from the East… of Colon City as she Googled – “2 moons+august 2007″, all the time muttering to herself, “2 moon, mi caan sleep tomoro nite”

And Behold Another Email Hoax….
……wrapped in swaddling shards of truth. But a hoax nonetheless.
- Beware of 2 Moons Email Hoak – NASA
- Close Encounter with Mars … Again? – Urban Legends About
- 2 Moons From Mars - Snopes
So if you got that email from a dear friend don’t feel too stupid. It does contain ’shards of truth’. Do you remember seeing the last time Mars passed closely to Earth August 27, 2003? On August 27 of that year, the orbital paths of Earth and Mars brought the two planets to within 34.65 million miles of one another. That was a close encounter, of galactic measures.
Another encounter occurred in October 2005 but not as close. Nothing as spectacular is going to take place this year. However, Nasa’s 2003 advice is still sound,
Disappointed? Don’t be. If Mars did come close enough to rival the Moon, its gravity would alter Earth’s orbit and raise terrible tides.
Marvia felt kinda smart after all, and took consolation in the fact that she did ask the right question about the potential impact of such an event. She figured, given that we have had so many natural disasters during August 2007 any news of ‘terrible tides’ would have set media houses buzzing.
No buzz…no 2 moons at midnight August 27th.
On the other hand though, a word of advice before you believe another forwarded email and forward to your entire contact list – please run a quick check online. I have found the following places to be most accurate:-

Lol, a friend and i almost fell for it but the very night i googled the key words and realized it was a hoax, a chain letter of sorts. The sad thing is my friend and i were still up at the time of the alleged happening and i was so curious that i still went on the veranda and to the back to see if i could see anything ( shame on yuh Derri)
Anyways i have made it a practice when receiving fwds especially those about missing children to simply google it and in most cases i realize its just a hoax. Id encourage more people to do it before they send those emails off to all their friends.
Bless
