Viva Patria! Panama’s Patriotic Celebrations 2007

Shouts of Viva Patria, drums, clashing cymbals and trumpets awakened me at 1:15am. Yes, 1:15am this morning. I was not amused. Neither did I have any charitable thoughts toward the group gathered one house away. Forget security precautions. The noise make mi tun fool (as If I need any help). I opened the window nearest the street and then it hit me….OOohhhh

Panama’s Patriotic Celebrations are now in full swing. They began on Thursday November 1, 2007 with the parade of the children. The whole country has been in preparation and anticipation. Students at the nearby school have been practicing since July.

Panamanians are serious about their parades.

The hustle and bustle of Colon City is just plain crazy. It’s like Christmas has arrived early. Traffic jams, crowded supermarkets, shopping for gala clothes…this is a crazy time.
And it reminds me too of how quickly time flies. November 5th will mark one year since I officially started Marvia’s Panama Journal.

Panama’s 104th patriotic celebrations and Marvia’s Panama Journal 1st Anniversary together in the same place? We gotta have a parade! So look out..or rather listen out and join the march.
