BWA Women’s Day Of Prayer 2007 At FIBC
The First Isthmian Baptist (FIBC) Women on Mission (WMU) celebrated the BWA Baptist Women’s Day Of Prayer 2007 today. The actual celebration is set for November 5th. However, that date is Colon Day. It is the biggest day of the patriotic month celebrations to be held in Colon. Parade time.
We had a special Patriotic Sunday service planned. We eventually incorporated the Women’s Day of Prayer into the service in order to accommodate its observance. Moreover, it brought the whole congregation into focusing on the plight of women across the world, and on every continent.

Many of the women wore their national dress – the Panama Pollera (the wide skirt and matching top with a lot of fancy handwork). I wore a special stole made by the Ngobe-Bugle indigenous Indians of Panama. Little MJ is wearing the national male outfit.

Our sisters led us in Intercessory prayers for the women of each continent and named specific global issues with which women still struggle such as poverty, war, violence (especially domestic violence), abuse, human trafficking, and the HIV and AIDS pandemic.
We also prayed for women who are still being marginalized, the suppression of women’s voices, and the continued exclusion of women from active participation in leadership and discipleship in many Baptist churches across the world.
Two women and two girls assisted with serving communion. The bread we used for Communion was baked by a sister in the WMU.

The challenge for the day was based on the BWA-WDOP theme, Seeing With New Eyes. We adapted this to match the Patriotic celebrations as well and reflected on – Seeing Our Nation Through New Eyes.It was an invitation to look at ourselves and see ourselves through new eyes – not as small and insignificant, but as enough in God’s eyes.
We would then be more confident about who we are, the resources we possess, and make available ourselves and our possessions for nation building. We all agreed that we have a lot to do and that it is not how much we have, but our attitude toward what we have and how we use what we have that will make the difference in this process.
A day of prayer is not the end, we anticipate a year of rich possibilities to advance God’s mission seeing with new eyes.
Peace,
Marvia

Duane,
I suspect that this is where we have to start. However, looking inward, in order to look outward takes a lot of time. We are living in a hyper-busy world..who has much time for introspection?
Those of us who recognize its importance simply must..
