Panama Baptist Women Showcase Jamaican Folk Heritage
Baptist women of Central Panama Baptist Association reminded the 48th General Assembly of the folk heritage of the first Baptists in Panama. The Jamaicans who came to Panama to work on constructing the Panama Canal took their Baptist faith with them. They established the first Baptist church on the Isthmus and so effectively began the spread of Baptist beliefs and practices in Panama at the start of the 20th century.
The immigrants retained their distinct Caribbean (West Indian) cultural heritage alongside their faith. You hear it in the language. You taste it in the food. And you will definitely see it surface in other ways.
Let’s see how much you know of the Jamaican culture. What do you think these women are doing?
Can’t wait to hear your comments.

“Yuh a brock rock stone, dung ‘mauel road” - you’re breaking stones. That looks like fun!
Two things though:
1. Yuh couldnt get them some of the nice bandana yuh wearing? [i say this just so people realize that is not 'wash out' yours 'wash out' - its not worn :-)]
2. How come your feet covered and everyone else showing?
Bless

Hahahah..Derry yuh too bad!
Yes we did a bruk rock stone fi true (we were breaking stones)! It was lots of fun.
To your 2 things:
1. The original Jamaican bandana that I am wearing is not available in Panama. I brought mine with me from Jamaica. What the other ladies are wearing is the best substitute they have been using for years.
2.I am such a ‘dainty little thing’ that all of me fit under the skirt. LOL
Take care…
