Join our congregation and I on a journey dubbed 40 Lenten Steps. We begin tomorrow Ash Wednesday (February 6) and continue through to Palm Sunday (March 16), the start of Holy Week. We will do 1 exercise per day.
Each day, I will post 1 step and a short reflection. Each step is a call to action; an opportunity to commit to a new discipline, and cultivate a new habit or attitude.
Are you up to it?
Join me tomorrow for the first lesson. It is already available, because tomorrow I will not be using the computer. That is my first commitment. Join me tomorrow for Lenten Step 1 – Unplugged!
Some of you may be familiar with these exercises. Last year, a friend gave me a little booklet entitled 40 Days & 40 Ways to Make the Most of Lent This Year by Tom McGrath former editor of US Catholic. I enjoyed it so much that this year I made up my own steps and ‘renovated’ some of McGrath’s.
These are all basic practical stuff that we tend to take for granted or neglect over the course of the year. Ash Wednesday begins a period of self-denial. It is a time to cultivate habits that promote self-discipline and self-control. At the end of the 40 Days all of us who participated in this exercise will be far better persons.
