Lenten Step 8: Reconcile With Estranged Family And Friends
I begin today the process of reconciling with estranged relatives and friends.
We have already taken 7 steps, and already I am feeling stronger. What about you? Well this is a test to see if we are really into the steps.
Lent is reconciliation time.
Time is too short for malice and unforgiveness. Unwillingness to do so prevents wounds from being properly healed. It is time to let the healing begin.
Today, I will send a note, an email, or make a phone call. I will do whatever it takes to find my relatives and friends and reconnect with them. I will get down off my high-horse and apologize where I had done wrong. Moreover, I will be generous in spirit and accept any apologies that are forthcoming as well.
Even if it is not a situation of wrong, this is still applicable. We should always take the time to keep connections alive and channels of communication open.
Join me in this process. Let us take seriously that which we pray in the Lord’s Prayer:
And forgive us our sins
As we also forgive others who sin against us. [Matt 6:12]
Go start writing your notes and making phone calls. I pray that all will be well in this exercise. Come back and share with us how this exercise went for you.
