Lenten Step 14: God’s Co-Gardner

I reclaim my position as God’s Co-Gardner today. I partner with God in tending our beautiful Earth.

Romans 8:19-23a counteracts the selfish and self-centered claims to salvation that ignores the future of the created order is also subject to God’s plan of salvation.

What Jesus accomplished on the cross restores not only ours but also the integrity of creation.

Humanity is by nature selfish. We have for centuries believed and practiced a self-centered kind of living, even within Christianity, that has seen us contributing to the degradation of the Environment.

Even in recent times, we have failed to take up and lead the cause for greater care of the Environment. This is a Christian responsibility, as we are Stewards (and by implication Co-Gardners) of God. We should respond to the Gospel call not to political interest groups calling us to action. Such a shame!

So today I recommit to lead by example in exercising better care of my environment. Sure I could sign up for a cause like Conservation International. That is great.

But today I pledge to take my commitment a step further by paying special attention to my use of water, conserving energy, looking at the products that I purchase for personal use and also commit to learning new ways to live a much more environmentally friendly lifestyle. And what I learn, I also commit to teach others.

What about you? Do you see yourself as, or want to be God’s Co-Gardner to help take care of the environment?

Take a positive step toward this today. Visit Conservation International and learn something new. Share any tips you have with us as well.

Peace,
Marvia
