Today I remember, that I work alongside others. They are my co-workers, partners, colleagues.
When I am off, isolated in my little corner, and feeling overwhelmed it is a good time to take a break and step back. Sure I think that’s a dumb idea. Who has time to step back when there is so much to do. However, nothing much will be accomplished with that frame of mind anyway.
In those moments, I am led to remember that the work I do is way bigger than I am. Perhaps that was what caused the anxiety in the first place. Maybe I looked around and did not see anyone else and felt alone and overworked.
But how can I see anyone else when I am alone in my corner?
So I feel a Jeremiah moment of lament coming on, I am the only one left alive carrying the load.
Do you ever feel like that? As though you are the last one left carrying the burdens? Do you ever feel such a strong sense of responsibility that you feel isolated even when there are persons around you also doing their work, you feel they are not doing enough so you take on more?
I wonder how Jesus felt. It would not be long before the work of salvation be complete and he had to do it alone. Yet he was not alone. God in Spirit was with him. And he also stayed with his disciples, for even though they did not fully grasp his mission, they were still his partners in ministry.
Reconnect with your coworkers, partners and colleagues today. As much as you might have convinced yourself that you are alone doing this task, you are wrong. There are many others like you and I, dedicated workers who need a little support and encouragement as well.
Join me today, send a note, an email, make a call, or simply walk up to your colleague or coworker and share some encouraging words with them. While you are waiting on someone to recognize your work, it is better to recognize the work of others.
Peace,
Marvia
