Lenten Step 17: Adding Justice To My Shopping List

imported fruits and vegetables

I add Justice to my shopping list today as a reminder of those whose natural resources and services are being exploited to stock our shelves with more consumables.

Justice on my shopping list is not a product I plan to purchase. Lord knows, it it were available for sale many more of us would never be able to afford it.

And even though it is not for sale, what a scarce thing it is!

So I renew my consciousness of the struggle against injustices in the marketplace.

Join me today and continue after today to add justice to your shopping list.

Here are 5 things you can do:-

1. Do your research and find out about organizations and multinational corporations that are violating fair trade principles.

2. Support companies and organizations that are ‘Green’ conscious – meaning they operate under environmentally safe and friendly conditions and use best practices.

3. Take a look in your cupboard and identify products that are either not environmentally friendly or are filled with toxic chemicals.

Sisters you might want to start with your cosmetics, perfume and both men and women need to check their household cleaning chemicals.

4. Ever thought of where your fruits and vegetables came from? Cheap labour to the point of enslavement is common on farms and in the agricultural industry around the world and especially in places like Asia, Latin America and Africa.

Think of that when you  buy your next banana and when you eat the next delicious bite of chocolate or sip your favourite cocoa.

5. Would you like your infant to work in a sweatshop making clothing, accessories, and other goods for you or others to look good? Child labour and its close friend child trafficking is a global scandal. Think about how you might be contributing to it.
