Mango Reflections At CPBA Retreat
The Central Panama Baptist Association (CPBA) Women’s and Men’s Departments are once again hosting their annual retreat at Cresta del Mar, Santa Clara Panama. I am off to share with them and enjoy some quiet reflection myself.
So I’ll be missing for a few days. Surely you’ll miss me. ( I hope that was a resounding yes!)
I confess too..you all know how I love to make my public confessions. I am looking forward to reflecting in the mango orchard. Man. Santa Clara is mango country. And anybody who comes out of Jamaica and tell you they don’t love mangoes - something not right I tell you.
And out here, they have the nicest Julie mangoes, apple mangoes and the turpentine mango. You know, the turpentine mango disappeared from Jamaica many years ago while I was still a child. It was such a pleasure to rediscover it when I got to Panama. Yummmm…
So I will be praying beneath the mango trees, listening to God speak through the marvellous smells and flowing juices of mangoes. Yes, God does speak in strange and interesting ways. As to whether I will be equally thrilled by what I hear is another story.
Anyway, you try to control your jealousy now. And please, no malice when I return. I’ll bring you back a picture or two of the prettiest mangoes I find. (If I remember to take the picture before I start eating).
Se mek I go off and sing now…“Mi noh drink Kaffee Tea mango time…nah, nah, nah…”office furniture in Bulgaria

I’ve never heard of turpentine mangoes! How are they different from julie mangoes?

Anthony,
Thanks for stopping by.
The turpentine mango is smaller than the julie and ripes to a full yellow. It actually smells like ‘turpentine’. From what I can recall, turpentine was used as an ‘ole time’ cleaning agent sorta like ‘Jeyes’. It had a really strong smell. Funny enough the mango smells like that but it is actually very sweet. So the smell is not a problem…
Kinda like Jackfruit..some people won’t touch jackfruit with a long stick because of the smell. Well I love the smell and the taste - everything!
Peace,
Marvia
