Usain Lightening Bolt Back Home In Jamaica
Usain “Lightening” Bolt landed in Jamaica a short while ago. My mother made Twitter look pitiful. By the time he landed she was on the phone. She was too excited to be coherent but I figured out what she was screaming in my ear. My mother, the non-techie then tells me go online and see if you can hear or see any of what is going on.
So of course I dashed off to find whatever I could on online radio. Nationwide Network was the best thing I could find. I was just in time to hear one vexed caller in true Jamaican style cussing about the displacement of Usain’s mother from by his side. From what the caller said, the motorcade from the airport has Bolt riding in a fabulously new red BMW with the current Minister of Sports Olivia “Babsy” Grange riding beside him.
The Jamaica Gleaner announced – Lightening Bolt Returns as they shared the official plans on the motorcade that met him at the airport. Those on hand to welcome him on the tarmac includes Jamaica’s Prime Minister Bruce Golding, Opposition Leader Portia Simpson Miller and Sports Minister Olivia “Babsy” Grange. The motorcade will conclude at the Pegasus Hotel in New Kingston.
The world’s fastest man will be answering questions from local and international reporters at a press conference at the hotel. Some of us, (Me) would give our eye teeth to be in that press conference right now.
My dearest mother did not intend it to be so. I know she wasn’t showing off on me. She simply knows the things that gets her daughter all excited. But lawks, ‘badmind a kill mi now’. Aarrggggg… I wanna go home! Waaaahhhhhh.

Yuh neva miss anything. Most uneventful press conference in history. They never had any sensible questions to ask him. It never seemed like much planing when into it -apart from the route from the airport to the Pegasus, – and the ironic thing is the minister of sports spent most of the time (at different intervals) thanking all the people who made the ‘event’ possible.
I looked forwards to seeing it and only got frustrated when they showed a rebroadcast of the long drawn out unorganized ‘event’ instead of bringing on House MD!
I hope their plans for October, when the all the Olympians are assembled, are much better.
But hey these are just my thoughts. Others may have enjoyed it. I guess i just expected more.

I don’t feel so bad then that I didn’t miss what was touted to be an event not to be missed. Some politicians just don’t know when it’s their turn to keep quiet. I hope the celebration planned for the full contingent will be better organized. And that the athletes will get a chance to share their stories.
