Advocating Year Long Pastor’s Appreciation

October, Pastor’s Appreciation Month, is just around the corner. We had ours in July. I was too swamped to tell you then that the congregation did show their appreciation. And no I am not going to tell you what they gave me. There wasn’t any fanfare, appreciation service or anything like that. And although I do not wish to set any precedence for other pastors who will come after me, that is just my style. I’m not into the fanfare and they know it. But they do know that I take Pastor’s appreciation very seriously when it is year long.
Sounds greedy?
Well it isn’t. I just prefer people to show their appreciation in more convincing ways. Buying or making a gift for a single day is really lovely. It does say something to me that my members think I am special enough to make such a gesture to their Pastora. But I guess I’m too demanding.
I want more and I want it often. All year.
And since so many people are coming here searching for pastor’s appreciation information let me also put ideas in your heads too. Possibly, your pastor is not as barefaced as I am to tell you that they are more impressed when you show your care in the ways I already outlined in Top 10 Everyday Ways To Appreciate Your Pastor.
So it’s not a secret. So let me rephrase my wish list again:-
I want leaders to show they truly appreciate me by taking time to make sacrifices so that our ministry partnership as Pastor and congregation might flourish.
I want Deacons who actually believe that the meaning of ‘deacon’, is one who serves not kingship/queenship; not the rebel leader of the opposing faction nor a conflict addict; but one who actively works to promote peace and well-being which makes the Pastora’s life much easier.
I want to actually start and end meetings on time because members show up on time. Oh the bliss of a couple extra hours to actually stay awake and watch TV, to go to a movie, or a cultural event. Gosh to complete a book I’ve started reading. Which brings me to…
I want more quiet time, undisturbed time, no wars to pacify time, before 10pm when I’m too zonked out to appreciate I have time. How about a morning in office when I can actually read and meditate with no interruptions or anyone feeling slighted when they encounter the Do Not Disturb sign having bypassed the Office Clerk.
I want questions which show that people have an interest in an issue and don’t just vote to move on to the next subject so we can get out of here and back to their lives knowing they have no intention of doing what they just voted for.
Am I asking too much?
Well now you know how demanding I am. Bet if you asked, your pastor would agree with me…but chances are you’re too scared to hear the truth. Well go ahead, find some appreciation poems on another site cause I have none here, buy or make a gift and stifle your conscience. Curse me for putting up this post to make you feel guilty.
Appreciate your pastor all year long by becoming more committed….. I dare you:-)

Love that blog entry…not many members of the congregation would think about this because its not too much of a gift giving which is relatively easy, but self giving which is wayy more difficult… Congratulations Marvi… Dave

Thanks Dave!
Great seeing you. I hope you are doing some serious self-giving over there in Japan.
Peace.
