Black History Month
Whose Black History Month in February?
It suddenly dawned on me that it is February and I’m not hearing Ads promoting Black History Month activities. With Colon’s predominantly black population of West Indian heritage, I was expecting this. However, I have to admit this heritage focus is not big on the world’s agenda anyway.

Different Places - Different Time
Seriously, whose Black History Month is February? According to a Wikipedia entry, Black History Month is celebrated in February in the USA & Canada, and October in the UK. I know other countries, including Jamaica have adpoted this celebration in February as well.
Renaming Black History Month
A few years ago I began using the term, African-American History Month instead of Black History Month. I can appreciate the concept of a month to recall the history of black peoples. However, I do have some difficulty with an African-American observance becoming the ‘history month of blacks’ worldwide. Why would black Africans in various parts of Africa celebrate Black History Month in February?
At the foot of the article in Wikipedia on Black History Month, there is this provocative question, why isnt there a white or hispanic or asian history month?
But what do you think?
