Love You Till Death

Not Even Death Can Part Us

couple holding hands

The heated promises of the lovestruck received encouraging news yesterday. The skeletons of two young lovers locked in embrace were recently unearthed by archaeologists. You see now why Romance novels become bestsellers? The story gets even better. Read the news on Prehistoric Romeo and Juliet.

Neolithic Romeo & Juliet?
Now hear this, the couple was discovered in Mantua, 25 miles south of Verona, Italy. This is the same city used as the setting of William Shakespeare’s infamous story of Romeo and Juliet (aaawwwww). So is there some kind of culture in this city where tragedy dogs young love?

Well it sure adds a lot of fuel to the Valentine fires and many will no doubt sing with more gusto - ‘And I will always love you’ …till death.

And I…

I suspect that it is easy for us to conclude that this young couple loved each other ’till death’ because it is the far more ‘romantic’ interpretation of this discovery.

When the couple is alive there is no measure that I can think of, or ever read/heard about that is able to determine the ’till death’ depth of their love.

As ‘romantic’ notions of love meets cold hard reality, filtered through emotional baggage or past hurts, disappointment, pain, and distrust of each other - ’till death’ pales into insignificance when one cannot even find ‘love’.

WOW!! was going to leave it there, but i am tempted to say that i understand what ur saying but that doesn’t mean that they (or one) does not still love the other “Till death”, even in the midst of past hurts, dissapointments and all the other things you mentioned.
I believe true “love” covers a multitude of (sins) wrongs.

It is entirely possible for someone to love another ´till death´ and I would never dispute that. However, I firmly believe that unresolved emotional baggage can cripple and prevent someone from giving and receiving love.

Pastoral practice to date, has allowed me to meet way too many persons who are married or in relationships who have not healed from their past hurts, have not forgiven or received forgiveness and so are unable to give fully of themselves to the person they are with.

I do agree that true love, the kind that God gifts us with is the only kind that can cover the multitude of wrongs you speak of - or put another way, overlooks the flaws in others.

Might I be troublesome and say though, that overlooking flaws is one thing but denial of reality is an entirely different matter. I read this in a little book of Wedding Jokes I had once (hmmmm…now that I mention it, where is my book? ) I´ll have to call up some of my light-fingered book loving friends!!

Anyway the quip is this - “If Love is blind, Marriage is the eye-opener”! ;-) Do you agree?

    One Love,
