When Is It Ok To Steal a Bible?
I just heard all the good Christians shout never! Are you kidding? How can you steal the word of God? I almost stole a Bible once. Almost. But then I was overcome with guilt so I left it.

Now, several years later and one very nice Bible short I am hearing it would have been ok to ‘steal’ it according to members of Gideon’s International.

This ‘good news’ that Bible stealing is ok was made public at the Annual Banquet of the Panama chapter of Gideon’s International, on Thursday March 29, 2007. The banquet was held in honor of local pastors of Panama.

Steal the Next Gideon’s Bible You See

Just check first that it doesn’t already belong to someone. Several years ago, I was staying in a hotel in Jamaica, when I encountered a whole ‘Gideon’s Bible’ as we call them. This was truly unique – as prior to that I had only seen the New Testament and not the whole Bible. I almost took it [sounds like I'm insisting too much] Anyway, It occurred to me that I really didn’t need it as I already owned at least six or seven Bibles. Moreover, some other guest in that room might need it more than I do.

Well I am about to cause a riot here. But hey, they said it first not me. Do you own at least one Bible? Well in your case let your conscience be your guide. However, if you do not own a Bible and you come across a Gideon’s Bible – Go ahead, Steal it! Ok, if it makes you feel better, take it. That’s why they are placed in hotel rooms, lobbies, offices etc. They were left so you could steal..I mean take them.

Mr. Warren reported that, annually the Gideons International place and distribute more than 63,000,000 Scriptures worldwide. On average, one million copies are distributed or placed every 6 days. That’s about 120 Bibles per minute! So take one. And don’t be selfish when you are stealing them either, especially the little New Testaments. Children love them. These days they come with Psalms and Proverbs as well. Rather handy to carry in your purse or pocket.

So this is the one time that stealing is actually encouraged. Forget the hotel towels, shampoo, conditioner and soaps. Steal the Bible instead, read it and see why it is the last thing you will ever want to steal.
