Once again, I’m Blogging World AIDS Day and adding my voice to the Bloggers Unite campaign in support of persons living with HIV and AIDS across the world but especially here in Panama.
Recently, I sat with several members of the religious community here in Colon, Panama to finalize plans for an Ecumenical service of worship [...]

Today, Friday September 18, 2009 is the 8th anniversary of my Ordination to the Christian Ministry. I was ordained within the faith community of the Jamaica Baptist Union (JBU), and installed that same day as Pastor of the Stewart Town Circuit of Baptist Churches. This [...]

Shouts of “Panama” and “Viva Panama” were reportedly heard when Rogelio Brathwaite’s name was announced, and as he walked up to receive his Diploma in Ministerial Studies. More shouts erupted when he received the award for Faculty Award for Academic Excellence as well. The latter is the top award issued by the faculty each year to a graduating student who has at the time of graduation 70% A’s in their best 25 courses.
Rogelio himself has created history as the first member of First Isthmian to be trained at UTCWI although not the first Panamanian to attend UTCWI. He follows in the footsteps of at least 3 other Panamanians (need to double check my history here!) one of whom was the Rev. Sam Vernon from Bocas Del Toro, Panama who attended Calabar Theological College around 1950 or 1951. Calabar College was one of the antecedent theological colleges that merged for Ecumenical purposes to form the United Theological College of the West Indies, and opened its doors in 1966.
The graduation ceremony was held at the University Chapel, Mon, Kingston. From what I heard the service lived up to its usual impressive standard. Each year the service is unique, and it is somewhat influenced by the unique personality of a batch. The Class of 2009 is definitely unique.

Stories of Bond and Bible reflect excessive violence and more than a string of dead bodies, including those of suckling infants and pregnant mothers. There are illicit sexual unions, sexist treatment of women, spy stories, land and water crises, intricate geo-politics and prophets who served the court. And yet a Bible Study using James Bond seems far-fetched to some Christians.
In my Blog post on Bond I told you that I would be doing a Bible Study in my congregation on Quantum of Solace. Well now I’ll be expanding the study to do the Bond character. This approach to Bible study is nothing new.
Book and movie discussions have long become popular in many churches for Bible Study. Churches and even Seminaries form discussion groups for Bible study and theological reflection around such fascinating book and movie releases such as; The Matrix, The Lord of the Rings, and of course The Da Vinci Code.

Quantum of Solace, the latest James Bond movie left my mind reeling with the gripping scenes and countless dead bodies scattered across South America and Europe. It also sparked some reflection on the plight of the world’s poor and people who lived in countries like mine who can identify with the issues of global economic [...]

“Faith leaders should hence commit themselves to working towards achieving a generation without AIDS, and show loving care and support for those infected. They should develop and implement imaginative strategies to fight stigmatisation, ensure that infected people have access to the essential needs like nutrition and medical care, as well as encourage those not infected [...]
