[...] Lydia from The Silver People Chronicle passed on in a comment: Rev. Marvia Lawes who lives and works in Colon did, however, get a “choice spot” on Lake Gatun and she has a rather fascinating account of her impression when she saw it. You can read it at her blog Marvia’s Panama Journal. [...]

Thank you for the work you are doing at the First Isthmian Baptist Church. I just stumbled upon your website and the article "Panama’s Rogelio Brathwaite Graduates From UTCWI, Jamaica." My belated congratulations to him and I trust that at this point he has completed his probationary work and is now fully ordained.

Rogelio has entered a noble tradition of Methodist ministerial candidates from Colon, Panama, Bocas del Toro and Costa Rica who have graduated from UTCWI and its predecessor colleges. Calabar and Union Theological Seminary. Beginning with the late Revds, Ephraim Alphonse, who served as the first Missionary to the Valiente Indian Mission, on the Valiente Peninsula, some forty miles off the coast of Bocas, then there was Felmin Coburn, Hilton Airall, both now deceased. In the 1950's and 60' there were the Revs. Alford Alphonse, Luis Veagra, Dr. Leslie Anderson, Theophilus Lewis, Osmond Lindo, Mario Nicolas(all still there in Colon and Panama, with the exception of Osmond Lindo) and Revds. Heinsley Johnson, Margaret Johnson and Donoval Johnson (Costa Rica) There may be still some other Panamanians who also were trained at UTCWI who are either active or retired in the Methodist Church there. Check with the Revd. Luis Veagra he may be able to give you a fuller history. Rogelio has entered a noble heritage of Panamanians receiving their theological education in Jamaica. May he be empowered with the Holy Spirit in the fulfilling of his ministry. God bless you.

PS.This information may be late in getting to you, nevertheless, I hope it is helpful.
